I got a letter stating I had returned check for $480.00. I never wrote the check. I called the agency about it. I was told it was PDL company I didn’t pay. I let them know I had sent them emails and letters by mail. I have not heard back from the PDL. PDLs are illegal in New Jersey. They had been told I didn’t know that when I got the loan. I was only paying the principle on the account.

I was told to fax them a copy of the letter. The fax number does not work. I even called back to make sure I had the right number.

What should I do next? I only owe $210.00

Thank You All

If the pdl company was illegal than you can be 99% sure the collection company is illegal too. I would say the next step would be to check and see if this collector has a license to collect in your state. If not treat them the same way as the pdl company. If they are licensed then let them know they are collecting for an unlicensed company. But like I said if the ipdl was illegal you can just about bet the collector is as well.

oh and stay off the phone with collection agencys! Can you pasy the name of the pdl and collector and even they phone # they called you from and we can see what we can find on them. Try googling the number or putting it in the search box in the upper right corner of this page and see what comes up.

the check thing is a favorite move of the illegal pdl and ca.they think an ACH debit consent is a check.look at your DFI and AG websites to see if either is licensed.what state are you in?

well.pdl's are illegal in NJ.so you only owe the principle borrowed.how much didi you borrow, and how much was debited?anything debited goes toward the loan.is 210.00 the amount remaining after you deducted fees?let me give you an example.

you borrow 300.00
the illegal pdl debits twice for 90.00
you owe 120.00

check and make sure of all debits toward this loan.you may be suprised at what little you do owe.

I have also received this scam, unfortunately they Quasar Corporate Services has reported this to my credit report, now I am fighting to get it removed. They say I owe $305; from a check I "supposidly" wrote to an account I have never owned. I told the collection company to send me a copy of the check I wrote or some sort of proof that the bill is mine, and they have never done so. They stopped calling but are now ruining my credit... any suggestions?

Dispute it on your credit report, see the links below for sample letters, you will need to tailor them to your needs:
