sudden HIGH fraud alert on files?
Date: Fri, 05/29/2009 - 14:43
I got letters this morning. One from EQ reading that high fraud alert was put on my file and that EQ requested TU and EX to do the same for 90 days. I also had a letter from EX reading the same.....as per your request we put the fraud alert.. I never requested it. The letters say that it will instruct credit grantors to verify my information....
I am just worried that this might hurt me. I am not sure how will this affect me. The only thing that this might have been caused by are the CMRR letters I sent to each bureau to validate a debt listed on my files.
Please advise, your help is very appreciated:) Thank you very much.

Placing a fraud alert service with your credit report does not affect your credit score. However, you may inform the bureaus by certified mail that you have not asked for the fraud alert service. Moreover, debt validation letters are sent to the creditors or the CAs and not to the bureaus. You need to send dispute letters to the bureaus in order to remove an incorrect listing from your report.

A 90 day initial fraud alert service can be placed anytime in your credit report, with the bureaus, free of any charge in case you suspect that your identity has been stolen. It has nothing to do with your credit score. However, if you want, you can sent Equifax a written request to remove the fraud alert from your report at the following address:
Equifax Information Services LLC,
P.O. Box 105069, Atlanta, GA 30348-5069
You should mention your name, address, ss number, tel number and date of birth in the letter.
