Oxford Mgnt
I just completed a 3 yr pay off of all of my credit cards with debt relief Network. All were paid at 40 - 70% of what was owed originally. Now I are getting called daily from Oxford asking me to call them back at 800-722-0248. They are attempting to collect the other percentage for either Discover or Capital One or possibly both of them.My machine cuts off before the message gives all the info. I didn't start hearing from them until 1 month after my 3 yr contract was completed with Debt Relief and now they can not do anything to help. I just do not answer the phone and do not dare call back their number. Funny I was just able to buy a $200,000 home so my credit rating must not be so badly damaged after all.

I get several calls from these people on my CELL phone, never get any message....and I don't have ANY credit cards what so ever, so if they're from discover they're barking up the wrong tree

Not necessarily. The person asked for someone who has the same name as my father in law who passed away over 2 years ago. My in laws have never been overdue on a bill in their life so I think they are just calling anyone with our last name hoping to actually get the real person &/or information on how to contact him. Funny thing is, my father in law name/ph # is still listed in the phone book so I should check to see if they called my mom in law looking for the person. She'd give them heck  if they were implying her dead husband was a deadbeat since she paid ALL the bills!
I didn't give her time to go on but told her not to call again and hung up.

I also received a message to call this number, and when I called back I was put on hold, and was given a recorded voice stating I had contacted "OMS." I have yet to check the internet on what it is, and when I do, I will post the info.
866-419-2681 Scam
Yes, 866-419-2681 is a scam operation. They are trying to collect a written off item, not a debt. A Company will write off or refund an item for customer service. Years later these items get "sold" to these "collection" agencies in the effort to recoup the money. In my instance, I was with a cell phone carrier for about 10 days in which all my calls were dropped and I was unable to get service in my area - so I cancelled the policy and they credited the amount I owed because I did not recieve service. I never heard from them again, no bills, no calls nothing, my account was closed. Now 4 years later I get a call from this 866-419-2681 "collection" agency saying I owe this debt. Once again, it is not a debt the company wrote it off 4 years ago. You know when you owe a debt - when you receive a monthly statement every month and you do not pay it, the company will send you a letter informing you that they are turning you over to a collection agency. This was not the case, I never received any other bills or notices from the cell phone carrier.

harassment, abuse, FDCPA violations
I received a phone call from 718-684-9404, "Oxford Management". At first it was an automated voice telling me to press 1 to speak with a representative. (obviously a mass dialer program) The woman who answered verified my name and the last 4 digits of my SS#. She said her name too quickly for me to understand and proceeded to tell me I owe a debt to U.S. Bank for an overdrawn checking acct which I closed in 2003. I told the woman that I recall paying a different agency for this back in 2004 but unfortunately I do not remember the name of the agency nor did I request any proof that the debt was paid in full. I told her I am disputing this debt in its entirety and that she is required to status the account as such per my verbal notification. (pursuant to recently amended fdcpa law) She then told me that if I refused to pay this that she would have the "Finalization Officer" report this negatively to my credit report and that it would have adverse affects on my credit rating. I asked her what a "Finalization officer" was and she could not answer my question, became frustrated and put me on hold. Then a man came on the phone and identified himself as "Louis Orama" and said he was the "Finalization Officer". Immediately I asked him what that meant and if he is an officer of the company, which he refused to answer and he went on to take an abusive tone with me. He refused to answer any of my questions and demanded payment in a belligerent manner. He said (and I quote verbatim) "You think you're smarter than everyone else" and "I know how to deal with people like you".(because of my ethnicity?) I then advised him as I did the first woman on the phone that I am disputing this debt in its entirety.(which he did not acknowledge) To which he replied "The bottom line is you owe this bill." I then asked for his collector license number as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Commerce, which he refused. As I was asking to speak to his supervisor he then hung up on me without advising that he was going to do so. Neither he nor the woman on the phone disclosed, at any time during the communication, the mini-miranda. This is a gross violation of FDCPA section 807 (11)
Not to mention the harassing and belittling tone of the call.
My background: I spent 10 years as a debt collector for a very reputable collection agency in the Minneapolis area. I held a management position with them for 3 of those years and was subjected to annual compliance tests regarding the FDCPA. While employed there I took pride in knowing the law and being respectful of consumer's rights while collecting debts. I currently work for a debt broker (a little higher up in the food chain) and am appalled at the behavior and the blatant violation of my rights by this "Louis Orama" (if that is his real name). My credit is considered "excellent" by the 3 major reporting agencies and my median score is about 760. I'll be damned if I'm going to let some $8 an hour collector verbally abuse me on the phone for a debt I've already paid. My hopes in writing this is that someone in the future may be subjected to the same abusive, harassing conduct and will find this reply. The actions of this "Louis Orama" and his company give my industry a bad reputation and make it more difficult for people like me to do my job. This man is a skidmark on the underwear of the collection industry and you can rest assured I will file suit.

i had the same experience with this guy recently over a bogus debt. he hung up on me, same thing. now i'm just wondering if i should dispute the debt in writing.
need help to pay....
Hi! I received a letter from the Trauner, Cohen & Thomas, L.L.P. a law partnership representing financial institutions in the area of creditors rights. I need help with how to pay my debts. According to our agreement with the credit card provider, I needed to pay for 40.00 a month since I can't afford to pay for the amount they attempt me to paid the last time. I only did one payment which is the first one and until now I haven't paid for anything else since they can't withdraw money from the account when they asked me to give them my debit account number in order for them to pull out some money for my account. Now I really need to pay and asked for your help of using a plan or deal of giving me a less amount to pay by monthly
Louis Orama
I have news for you. Louis Orama is his real name...he's my ex boyfriend from years ago. He's probably on probation since he's been in jail a few times. He's one of those people that like to push the boundaries and limits allowed. I'm sure he'd be fired if they knew he treated you that way. I haven't talked to him since he's been at this job but he left a message on the answering machine with his work number looking for an apartment.
louis orama
i was employed at Oxford Management and yes it is true lou orama--does exsist--he is a very self-centered conceited man. He is currently in jail for a probation violation and is getting out, the director of that company is getting him released from jail and giving him his job back as a supervisor. OMS is a very disfunctional workplace I also have been a bill collector for 5yrs now and was fired due to a majority of lies..Do you have any legal advice for me on how to take further actions....

*** UPDATE ***
I sued them and won!!! As soon as they received the summons and complaint they settled out of court right away and sent me a check for $1,000.00! They also issued me a letter assuring me the matter has been closed and no balance is owed. Hired an attorney on a contingency basis so we split the money. Justice has been done.

Report Oxford Management to the FTC
Report them. Oxford Management have already been fined by the FTC for their illegal practices. Making a complaint to the FTC does work!
WASHINGTON, July 2, 2009 -- The Federal Trade Commission issued the following press release:
The operators of a debt collection company (Oxford Management) that used false threats and other unlawful tactics to collect consumers' debts have agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that they violated federal law. The settlements bar future violations and require the defendants to pay $225, 000.
According to the FTC complaint, the defendants, who had about three million consumer accounts and collected debts in every state, falsely threatened that nonpayment of debt would result in garnishment of consumers' wages, arrest, or legal action.

Got a call from this number at 8:29am on May 4 but missed the call. About 20 minutes later after I checked this website, I called the number back. After one ring, a woman answered and asked how she could help me. I gave her my number and said I missed a call and wanted to know what it was about. She asked if my name was Victoria something or other. Since I'm a man, I thought she'd have that answer figured out but I guess not. I told her I've only had my new number for a short while and this Victoria person must have had the number before me. The woman thanked me and said the number would be deleted from their call list. We'll see.
866 716 9863
The people at 866 716 9863 are calling my number at least 10 times a day and sometimes more an will hang up on me an then repeatedly call back to back calls. I just had my number installed about 6 weeks ago and informed "the oxford company" as they identified themselves to be that this was a DSL phone line an not a standard phone installation number to send/receive phone calls with, an that whoever they were looking to locate did not exist at this number. Since then, speaking to one there claiming to be a supervisor the amount of calls from the company have escalated and become more belligerent an abusive and the calls come even more frequently now. I have informed them if the calls did not stop that an attorney would be contacted an they would be sued for harassment.
Keep a record of day, time, length of call, type of call, log of what was spoken an to whom or what extension the calls are coming from. Contact your local phone company and "report" the number to them. Then file a police report for "STALKING" against the company.
Your local phone company then sets up a "trap" on your phone line that records the calls from that contact number for court proceedings an for police use.
