Questions on Credit Repair

I am trying to clean up my credit. I have noticed a couple of things. 1. None of the accounts that were included in my chapter 13 have been updated. They are all still showing a balance owed.
2. I have several accounts from 5 years ago that were student loans that were consolidated that still show a balance due, but that the account is closed, no derogatory notes on them. I know for a fact that these are suppose to be zero balances.
Should I disputed the balance amount, or the debt. Would it be better to try and get them off my credit or just update the dollar amount.
Any suggestions. I am not that far off on my credit score and think updating these could help.
Would it be better to use a service that does this?
