Unjust Credit Inquiries
Date: Mon, 06/08/2009 - 07:27
I owe no debt, I've never been contacted by them, there is no past due debt on any of my credit reports, nor do I have any.
I guess they could have bought old debt, which would be over 10 years old (product of divorce disputes over credit card debt). How-ever if that was the case, wouldn't they try to enter that on my report?
Why would Transunion let them pull my report if they have no debt to collect from me?
I am reading that it has to stay on there for two years. Is Transunion reasonable to deal with?
Thanks for any help

Old debt is still debt....they can still attempt to collect it even if they cant report it. Sounds like they are valid inquiries which are legal.

I don't know that is what it was for, my ex spouse was court ordered to pay it but at a point (way) back then, I was getting letters from a CA, I haven't in many years now.
So do I write the companies and ask why they have requested my report?
I have a really good (excellent) credit score with two of the agencies but this is dragging the score from Transunion way down and I was planning to apply for a mortgage.

A divorce court order has no bearing on the creditor. It would have been up to you to take your spouse back to court for non payment.

Dispute the inquiries with the CRA. If that doesn't work, write the CA and tell them they had no reason to pull your file and to remove the inquiries.
Based on your credit history...the CRA might remove them seeing as there does not SEEM to be a permissible reason for the CA to inquire. Can't hurt!
Inquiries
Transunion still needs "permissable purpose" to post inquiries on your report. I would start with a dv letter to the CAs and at the same time pursue it with a BBB letter and FTC complaint. Accounts may be time-barred. What is the SOL in your state and are the CA's required to be licensed and post bonds.
