how to raise my score

i want to raise my score to buy a home within the next year....but kids came and jobs left and collections came to visit us for awile...now they are all paid and about 2-6 yr old and some will start to fall off soon....but my score is relatively low...what can i do to raise it? we've waited years with good discipline..and need to do something at this point b/c it raises about 2-3 points a month..any thing i should open? anyway to make it raise faster? should we get our first "outta-debt" charge card? our newest account is 3+ yrs and good standing..any help would be great..

Get yourself a secured credit card from the bank you are with and pay it off early every month! Pull your credit reports and challenge anything that is incorrect first! Wait thirty days to make sure it is not put back! Then challenge everything that is detremental. Only do two per month! Many creditors do not have the staff to go find old files to validate your debt! Remember though if you really messed up it will stick! There are a few experts that can help you but do your research as most, but not all, are cons!
