I have a collection account on my credit report from Phoenix Recovery Group. It is for some bogus charges from an apartment I moved out of in June 2006. I have prepared my DV letter and was looking for info on the Texas Secretary of State website about license and bonding for these people and could not find any. Has anyone here ever dealt with them?

Can you tell me what ended up happening. I am in the exact same situation and the creditor is PRG!! Thanks.

i had same problem with them.i had apt under my name, moved out, later when i moved back into hometown apt complex said i had owed money, and couldnt get apt until paid. i made a money order, paid it, my mom co signed and later i moved out early BUT paid what the apt manager told me to pay.before i left i said is that all i have to pay she said yes. 1 yr later PRG is calling saying i owe for both apts.i started making payments and julys money order was never received, now they are talking about taking it to civil court.all my other monthly payments have been made but because julys for some reason never got there they want to take to court unless i pay TODAY.im down to only owing a couple hundred dollars but i dont get paid that much to where i can make a payment for the remaining amount TODAY. i dont know what to do, other than keep sending in monthly payment.thats all i can afford.

I'm having a problem with this company, Phoenix Recovery Group aka PRG, in San Antonio, Texas. After moving out of an apartment and leaving it spotless, they claim I owe $1,700 for replacing carpet. I found they were sued in San Antonio so I talked to the lawyer and he says he can help. I'll keep you posted on what happens, but so far the calls have stopped.

i am having serious doubts about paying these people. they do not want to provide anything in writing that u have made any payments besides giving u a reciept upon the full payment of debt. also...they wanted me to beleive that i responsible for 100% of my broken lease even though the apartment had been occupied shortly after my move out. that's illegal in texas. u can not double charge for an apartment, only if it is left vacant. how do i get from around them...my complex said their have new owners now.

I also moved out of an apartment complex and left it spotless, and they are claiming I owe about $1000.00 for cleaning fees, I moved out over a year ago and the first I heard about this was maybe a few months ago, now they are saying I owe extra fees because of how long it has been. I just got a letter stating they are considering "filing suit" against me. What should I do? Can they sue me, how will this affect me in the future, I am not going to pay money, just because they "claim" I owe it to them.

I moved out of an apartment about a year ago. I had to move out due to military reasons, and the woman in the office said i didnt owe any money because i notified them in advance. A few months later I got called saying I owe $3000 for a broken lease! I sent the prg a letter disputing this and now they are calling me. What should i do?

I am having the same issue with this company, my best friend and i had an apt for 1 year and the lease was ending we asked if we had to give 30 days or just be out by end of lease? The girl in office told her as long as we wrote we would be out by lease it was ok! We did just that and payed someone to shampoo the carpet due to it needing it and didnt want to be charged, and stayed till late the night before vacating and left apt spotless! About 2 months later received letter saying owed for severe painting, cleaning, and carpet cleaning, and 1 months rent. We needed to pay NOW or get taken to court this was in April 2010 the lady was very rude and demanding and being young I was scared! We feel we do not owe anything. We were getting calls to work constantly and to our phones at all hours. We were going to pay, but after talking with different people they agreed we shouldnt be charged. I called office and asked if it was so bad do they have pictures and said they do not need pics we left it a mess. PRG claims we were messy and I am sure they never saw apt. They continue to call to work and even asked to speak with our HR from our job, that was just ridiculous! I am a little scared on what to do but strongly feel we owe them NOTHING! What should we do?

The best thing to do when you have issues like this is to contact a consumer attorney. The National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) has a website where you can easily connect to attorneys who work in this field. The website is www.naca.net. Select the "find an attorney" tab, put in your state, select "debt collection", click whatever box makes the most sense (FDCPA, Not My Debt, Harassment and Abuse, etc.), and then click the search button to the left. A few attorneys will come up so the best thing to do is to (starting at the middle or bottom, because the top names probably get the most inquiries) send out a form email explaining the situation to all of the attorneys listed. If you leave your contact information, the interested lawyers should get back to you. Good luck.

I have dealt with them and as far as collection agencies go they are not bad. You need to try getting the validation information and reading the lease contract and Pet addendum. It will tell you reasons why you owe in the fine print. Had a few experiences with apartment move-outs and it can be tricky. Also, collection agencies are willing to settle the debt if you are looking to increase credit score.
