He then told her that she "probably knows what this is about" and then asked if she knew how to get a hold of us. She explained that she had our cell phone numbers for emergency only. He then asked her for the numbers and our place of employment. She stated she wasn't comfortable giving out that information and he told her that "it's okay, I won't tell them I got it from you. I don't want to lose my job either."
She continued to tell him no, and he continued to pressure her. She's my 16 year old babysitter, not an adult, and certainly not allowed to give out my information to anyone who calls and asks for it.
Finally he left her the phone number 1-800-962-9898 x231. She called me at work, frantic and upset that something was wrong. After I calmed her down she told me the whole story.
I called ACS and first spoke to an operator then was transferred to a supervisor at extension 249. He said he name was Thomas and wouldn't give me a last name. I explained the situation to him and he refused to address it. He just wanted my checking account numbers for a payment. I again, stated the problem and reason for my call, and he said he didn't see where harassing a 16 year old girl is a problem! Then he asked me to set up a payment.
I explained to him that I was at work and didn't have time. I offered to contact him back at 5pm when I would get home. I was told that he was marking me down as a refusal to pay. I told him I am NOT refusing, I'm just telling him I can't do much from work when I'm not suppose to be on the phone in the first place.
After I told him that again, he started yelling at me. Telling me that I am refusing to pay, that he's marking it down as a refusal and nothing I say will change that. He was raising his voice and screaming at me over the phone. And this is suppose to be a supervisor! I then told him that myself and my husband can ONLY be contacted at our home number. He asked me to give him our places of employment. He said he'd hate to have to search for the number and THEN call and talk to our bosses. I told him AGAIN that we are not allowed to receive phone calls at work.
As soon as I hang up with him, he calls my husband at work. After I had just told him we are not allowed to receive personal calls at work. So, obviously he had the number all along, so I'm not sure why he wanted me to give it to him again. My husband told him AGAIN (this isn't the first time ACS has called him at work) that he can't receive calls at work.
These people have already called my parents (I haven't lived with them in 7 years), my grandparents (I've never lived with them), and my husbands place of employment. Today makes about the 10th time I've had to call and tell them that they may only contact me at home. Period.
I just filed a complaint with the BBB and my local State Attorney General. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

Have you recieved any written correspondence from them? If not, next time they call, verify your address and inform them they had 5 days from initial contact to mail you details in writing. Don't talk to them anymore. When you recive their dunning letter repond with a request for Debt Validation. State in your letter "All calls to my employer place my employment in jeopardy" and "All calls to my home and cell are recorded"
My suggestion is find a naca attorney....numerous violations.

Most of these callers will be having Indian accents. And they have pseudo names. Just ignore their calls. They might get bored and leave you. File cases against them with your local police.

These bozos just called asking for a resident at my house. When I said the person wasn't there, they asked for a cell phone number for the person, which I told them I didn't have. I asked to take a msg and "Britney Vallet" at x337 gave me her name and number. I asked her for the company name and she said it was personal in nature and there was no company name..... ya right. I told her that without a name, she wouldn't be getting a callback. She started to hem and haw, so I just hung up the phone.

We if you owe a bill they have the right to contact you to collect it(.). I work with a legal company which handles this for a living. They made a mistake looking for a company and called mine by mistake. They can ask for and dont not have to ID them selfves. They can not 3rd party disclose evenif the other person knows why you are calling. ACS other number 508-435-7890. If you feel violated file a complaint with the FTC.

I can see this is an old post, however, I also have had similar situations with this debt company and what you did was probably the best and only way to handle it. The only other option would have been to call your lawyer, or get some advice from one. Don't tolerate any crap from these people. My father always taught me how to handle them and he said if ever they call you and demand anything, the first thing you do is yell at them and tell them never to call you back at this number again!!! I've watched him do it and he was very convincing. You don't have to put up with there crap. Many times, even being nice with them will get you no where. You can be nice. Don't get me wrong. But if they get authoritative with you and start making demands, don't put up with it. And making demands to a 16yr old? Wow. I would've given them a piece of my mind, for sure!!! Where do they get off?!!! It's understadable that in most cases they're just doing there job, and you obviously owe money for something. But many people are having problems with debt nowadays, especially with gas prices the way they are. The problem is that many banks today don't want to take any responsibility in loaning out money whatsoever. So people end up falling behind. The banks are just as responsible for debt as people are.
