If it was Chase, then I would call back and ask to speak with a manager...explain the situation...believe me...an attorney would advise you to never settle anything without it being in writing...otherwise...what proof do YOU have...

I have settled with chase five of my six accounts, and they were all in writing. As far as I know, upon approval Chase will send you a settlement letter. I would not pay anything without the letters sent from them saying "we will report your account to the national credit bureau as "settled" with no balance due" This statement clearly confirms you account is settled.
Don't use Settlement Companies. Do Your Own SETTLEMENT
Get it in writing. If they don't want to give it to you in writing, then wait, they will. It might be too soon in the process. You should be in and around month 5 of delinquincy
