I live in Maryland and have 7 payday loans, with a total of about $2500 owed. I had to withdraw the cash I had in the bank because my husband got laid off and I wanted to pay our necessities, so their ACH debits on my last payday were all returned. Some of them attempted to put them through twice on the same day. Now, not only do I still owe all of this money, my bank assessed me over $350 in return ACH charges. I am beside myself with worry and don't know what to do. Because of the bank fees, I now can't even afford my regular bills for the rest of the month. I'm sure they will draft these again on my next payday, which will rack me up even more charges-and because I can't even afford to make ends meet this month now, the money will not be there again. I'm so ashamed for getting myself into this situation and wonder if anyone has any advice for me. thanks

Please provide a listing of the PDLs and what you owe to each one; as Cool Abyss says, PDLs are illegal in MD unless they're CSO's. (and if you're dealing with the internet PDL's, I doubt many of them ARE CSO's). In addition, check the MD laws for PDL's on this website; I would highly recommend contacting the Office of the Commisioner for Financial Regulation (# listed in the laws), as they were a big help to me w/ PDLs.

Thank you, i'm calming down. :)
This is the information that I have-some of them go under aliases so I get a little confused. I'm calling my bank shortly to get more information on the companies that are doing these ACH debits-I've lost track of what I even owe and to whom at this point. They are all internet loans.

Greenlight Funds, I believe $200
Ace (I'm not even sure who this one originated from, but I believe it's $200. I can't reach them so I'm waiting for them to send me an email which they usually do once per month-unfortunately I didn't save the last one)
Outback Bucks, balance $190
CTC/Northway, $504
500 Fast Cash $670
JBA Marketing (same as Ace, see description)
United Cash Loans $400

I just have a couple more questions. Should I send them each letters revoking my ACH permission? Do they or the bank have to comply with that since they are not legally even allowed to do business in Maryland? Also, should I send a letter revoking voluntary wage assessment to cover my butt? If they ignore both letters and continue to harass me and try to debit my account, is there anything I can do to stop them other than close my account and warn my employer that he may be getting documents from them regarding this (so embarassing)?

Also, is there a way I can force them to show me my payment history so I can ensure I'm only paying the principal balance? I was VERY remiss in not keeping my documents on these. I will pay the principal because I want to do the honest thing, but any ideas on how I can obtain that information? thank you

Please check the sections here on closing your account and sending letters; don't let the PDL's know beforehand that you'll be closing your bank account or putting it on "deposit only" status, or they'll try to drain it before you can close it. Guaranteed these guys don't play fair! When you go to the bank, talk to the manager and explain what's happened; chances are, they've heard the story before. And again, I'd recommend contacting the Maryland Commission at Financial Regulation; their # is (410) 230-6100. As far as "forcing" these PDl's to give you your payment history or to leave you alone, well.... more than likely once they find out they can't debit your account, you'll get phone calls and e-mails; they'll insist they ARE legal in Maryland, all kinds of nonsense. Personal opinion, but before you send them ANY kind of letters, make sure your bank account is either closed or on deposit only status.

"Cool Abyss," if she sends the revocation letter before closing the account, won't that lead the PDL's into thinking they might not get their money, and they might just try to drain the account as quickly as possible? (not trying to start an argument, just curious - thanks)
