Is the correct reporting date on a credit report the date the orginal creditor sells it to a collection agency?

Not exactly sure what you are asking but generally Date Reported would reflect the last update the data furnisher made with the CRA's. If your debt has been sold, it should have a Sold/Transferred to another Lender notation and a $0 balance. There are some OC's that will sell off the account and still make monthly updates to their tradeline for the full 7.5 year reporting period.

OC's can report chargeoffs every month (ie they don't have to stop reporting it just because it's charged off).

Albeit, as NASCAR stated, if they sell the debt then they have to show a 0-balance and "transferred".

The 7.5 year period doesn't calculate from the last reported date; it calculates from the time the account first became delinquent (DOFD). So whether they charged off and stopped reporting, or if they still do report every month, the DOFD will always be the same.
