Settling with Alliance One
Date: Sat, 06/20/2009 - 22:12
Hi...I just found this forum and think it's great.
My debt is from 2001-2004, 4 accounts from court that went to Alliance One, based in Tacoma, WA. (2001 DUI dated in CA as 2003, a No Insurance ticket, expired tabs, etc.) Total original amount is $2441. Alliance One wants $3961 but after I called and asked for a settlement offer, it's now $3200. I'd like to get a settlement lower than this 80% since it's been so many years. I could pay, say $2800 now, if they would agree. Any advice on how to get a lower offer, and how to protect myself?
Also, how can I see the Date of Deliquent Payment on each of these 4 accounts? (By the way, I did call the courts to see if they could pull the accounts back in- no go.) I only see 2 of the accounts on Experian report. Are those dates firm? Will these accounts be gone at 7 years from that date? Would making monthly payments keep them open for the years it would take? I'd much rather just make one settlement payment but trying to figure out all my options.
This credit stuff is embarrassing...it just came up at work and affected my cash-handling privileges, after a year of it NOT being an issue. My life is nothing like how it was many years ago. It's awful to have the past come back and bite me!
Thank you, I appreciate any tips and info.

Add-on to my post
Oh- I just cross checked the case numbers on the CA printout, with court records online. The cases are from:
5/5/99 DWLS
3/1/01 Expired Tabs
10/14/02 DUI
4/7/04
How can some of these still be an issue after so many years? I'm going to do a debt validation. How can I determine the legality of an account from 1999??
