Hello.

I have on my credit report an entry on Equifax with this info:

Creditor Name:

Account No.: 6484***
Original Creditor:
Responsibility: Individual
Condition: Derogatory
Original Balance: $189
Balance: $189
Date Opened: 07/2007

It has no creditor name or original creditor.. Who do I contact to try and figure out what this is for…. Also the last three digits of the account are missing…. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Just call EQ first...ask them who is this account? As to the x-ed out account #, that may not be possible. Many times creditors scramble or truncate the account # - for protection, so no one can steal your account info.

If EQ can't tell you who the creditor is, tell them on the phone you dispute it. They'll fill out the claim and process your dispute. Otherwise, you can send them a letter disputing it. Phone is quicker.
