I agree...wait for the discharge...also, you might consider getting a secured loan from a credit union...it's money you put in an account and then borrow against it...make sure they report to the credit bureaus, you'll pay the interest for 6 to 12 months, then use the savings account to pay off the loan. Just make sure you pay the monthly payment...example...for a $1000 loan @ 5% interest, your monthly payment will be $4.17 per month.

While you are still in a bankruptcy, you generally need the court's permission to obtain new debt.
Other than that, creditors aren't going to approve anything while they see you still have a BK ongoing.

The OP was originally asking if they should use their credit card that is still open with a zero balance.
I suggested they wait for discharge, then proceed with credit rebuilding.

Oops, I guess I didn't read that far into it ... sorry. I guess if the CC hasn't closed your account yet, then by all means. Just pay it off every month. Whenever they do an account review and catch wind of your BK, they'll probably close your account though.

Yeah, I would wait for discharge just to be on the safe side. Within about 6 months you will get pre-approved offers for new credit in the mail. -PLEASE- be very careful to use credit very sparingly and only for emergencies. For example, if you want a new computer or that beautiful china hutch, it's better to save up and pay cash.
When my mother filed Ch 7, she only got 1 credit card from a credit union, and made 1 secured loan as suggested above, and refused all the many offers that came in the mail. Her credit score was above 700 and she was able to buy a house within 3 years after. Oh, she also opened a couple of CDs at a credit union.
