Yep, you heard it right, a debt collector was actually arrested several days ago!! I posted a piece not too long ago about these people but did not know the debt collection manager company's name. These are the people that would call up consumers while impersonating law enforecement officers and would threaten them with arrest if they did not pay debt. A reporter went undercover to one of their offices and caught an agent on hidden camera threatening someone over the phone into paying a bill. Well, Toby Boyland, the owner...has been arrested!! I am not sure if his offices have been shut down or not, but more than likely, they have. Boyland was as ex-con, and when he was arrested, he was allegedly packing a firearm. His main base of operations was Buffalo New York. The trouble is, Boyland is only the tip of the iceberg. When will other heads of Collection agencies be led away in handcuffs, for also breaking the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act? at least, Boylands sojourn in this arena, is over...at least for the next several yrs.

Quote:

he was arrested for impersonating a law enforcement official. not for violations of the fdcpa. pretty big difference there.

With all due respect to you, youre a moron.

First, the guy's a convicted felon that carries a gun illegally, as well as owning other guns, also illegally. Convicted felons cannot own guns. The guy bought them illegally, kept them illegally, and carried them on his person illegally--all of which he knowingly did. These are federal felony crimes in and of themselves, and if the guy is willing to blow off the law when it comes to something as serious as that, how much respect do you REALLY think he has for civil law????

Second, as already mentioned, impersonating a police officer IS a violation of the FDCPA. And now that this case has been blown wide open in public, just imagine the civil suits he is now going to be potentially facing, from all the people he shafted out of money with these illegal tactics??? Youre so concerned that "he wasnt arrested for FDCPA violations" that you arent even smart enough to see the big picture.

Third, I dont see anywhere in this thread where we were claiming he WAS arrested for FDCPA violations....

OK, class dismissed, now you can go back to your computer dialer and probably breaking some of the same laws yourself on your next call...

You guys are amazing. Why the constant name calling if you do not agree with someone who posts. Is that really a way to behave to other people. I always see the same person involved in the name calling and put downs. It is really disgusting.
The crowd will go wild when someone makes fun of you

well, "guest", if you really have something to say, then why hide behind a guest post? Why not register and state your case?

The fact is that it wasnt about belittling someone--whether you realize it or not there are real, actual morons in this world. Calling someone what they are at face value isnt about belittling them, it's about being honest. And its a far cry better than those that come here, hide behind "guest" and try to dive-bomb anything that speaks negatively about debt collectors. Think about it--the subject of this thread is a convicted felon that uses deceit and fraud to steal thousands of dollars from people that he has no right to collect. Why would any reasonable person defend what this man has done with such a tangental, woefully insignificant point? Seriously--does the fact that he "wasnt arrested for FDCPA violations" change anything about what he really has done? It's painfully obvious when debt collectors come in here and try to derail the facts--no one even claimed thats what he was arrested for, thats how we know it was a debt collector that posted that nonsense.....

ok well first of all, im not a debt collector. i WAS at one point, but guess what - NOW I work for a CCCS company! crazy, right? that said, i never said dude wasnt a scum bag. the facts in that article speak to that truth.

and the truth is it does amount to an FDCPA violation, so i will withdraw that comment. and i didnt have to rely on insults to do it! just sheer humility.

ohh. and i dont sign up because i dont want to load up my email addy to this site. its enough to lurk around every now and then. i dont care if people dont trust my advise. but theres a lot of strange info being floated on these boards.

wow...so you went from a scamming profession....all the way....to a profession where more than half of the companies are.....scammers.....

WOW, youre sure moving up in the world!

Anyhoo, it doesnt matter if you "withdraw" your comment or not--the fact is that no one even made such a comment in this thread, and then you pop up like youre trying to save the day or something. You are the one who came in here and posted like you were schooling people--but the problem there was that you didnt pay attention long enough to know that you were posting a rebuttal to a claim that no one had even made.

How do you think I knew you were among the debt collection industry? because your attention span matched theirs.

you can admit when youre wrong? thats rich....

I am happy for you that you are proud of your debt collector heritage....but then again, scammers of a feather.....I myself make an honest and substantial living, so I dont have such things to ponder in my own life. Keep this in mind--when people like the subject of this thread are more the rule than the exception in an industry, you shouldnt make much of a habit to be proud to be in that same industry. Debt collection is filled with crooks, thieves, and convicts, and that isnt just someone making claims. This winner that just got busted is a prime example.

I love it when these idiots come here. I also love it when I leave scammers like NCO, LVNV and the rest of them fuming. Poor, poor little junk debt buyer who bought my debt on three cents on the dollar.

The junk debt folks are the ones pissed off by this site because it makes consumers aware of their rights.
