I signed up with a settlement company about 7 months ago. Taking 239 a month out of my account, and I will admit the collection calls did stop. But I hadnt heard anything as to progress that was being made on my account. So I called in to check out what has been going on. There was never one specific person for me to go to with questions/concerns. When you call you get a differnt rep each time. So I ask if anything has yet to be done, and they tell me no that I only have $108.00 in my escrow act. I was shocked! When i signed up they told me there was 100 fee, never told me that over 200 a month of what i was paying them was to go to fees for the first 8 months, then after that 100 a month for the next 10 months. I have about 19-20k in debt. So I canceled the program, I am losing all the $$$ that has been paid in fees and I am going to do this myself. This all happend Monday and since then I have managed to settle 2 of my accounts on my own! They were both HSBC, one was 775 and i am paying 367. the other was for 650 and i am paying 250. I still have 2 more credit cards, a loan from cash call that I have paid 2 1/2 years at 216 a month for a 2600 loan!! I Have more then paid double that amount. The last I have is 16k from a repossessed car. I gave the car back in Aug, as I no longer afford the payments. They now want 16k for that!! I am taking it one act at a time, and in a few years I will be debt free. The hardest to work with so far is Cap1. I had a card with a balance of 297.00 when I signed up with the settlement comp, they now want 750!!!! I offered to pay 300 and be done with it, but so far they have not budged! So I will wait a few more weeks and try again!!! If it wasnt for the repo car, I would of nevr gotten into a settlement comp, but since there was noway I could pay Wells Fargo 16k and I was going into the program I figured I might as well put all my debt in there! Big mistake!
