When a collection law suit is filed by a collector, what factors determine if the suit is filed in small claims court, or regular court?

The amount sought in the law suit?
The cost of filing?

I owed-defaulted on a master card ($6547), in 2005. I live in the state of Washington. I am concerned about a lawsuit.

It depends on your county's rules of civil procedure. Some states specify that collections must be sued in a specific court. It also can go by the amount being sued for, for example some small claims courts have a limit of $5000, so if that were the case at your courthouse, then they could not sue you in small claims since the amount is too high.
