Citi Question

Anyway, this time she says she can re-submit the offer and they'll respond within 5 business days. But she says they can only put in an offer based upon a settlement percentage. I was offering a round $3k to settle my account, but she said it had to be based upon a percentage of the balance. So that's my question, can they really only put through a settlement offer based upon a % of the balance, or did I get snowed on that?

I received an offer from Citibank and they offered 54%. It was my first offer and I told them I could not do anything at this time. I am just over 100 days. I was always told to offer round numbers like you did, but if they want percentages, how about 20%. Stop making offers and play hard to get, if they want some money they will make some offers to you. Then counter.

Who knows why they are wanting a %. It's probably because the imbicile you talked to forgot their calculator that day. They're probably just yanking you on the 5 days, anyhow. If they don't respond, I'd forget about the account and ignore the H out of it until they come calling.
That's what we did. We are currently in the midst of settlin' our largest account with Citi -- The settlement offer letter states a current balance of 10,963, with a pay-off total of 4490,"which is 41% of the balance owed" as it states. The payoff total is neatly rounded off, the percentage is actually 40.96%.
Close, I know, but for the Chase rep to get hung-up on needing a finite percentage seems to be an imbicile-like thing to do.

I have $30k debt with citi,my largest of all my cc debthey would only settle with me for 20% off the balance, don't know why,it has now been charged off and waiting to here from ca.Another cc company told me he was only allowed to do a certain % of the balance.I was able to get into some programs of other cc companies where they dropped the interest rate to 0% and dropped all the interest and late fees etc.and went back to my original balance and it is a 60month plan to pay it off.I did this with a few because I was not able to come up with the large sum of money to do settlement and I did want them to be charged off.Good luck.P.S. citi does have this type of program if the settlement thing does not work out or if you don't want it to get charged off.

Does this impact your credit?
Who are the companies other than citi?
thanks.
