State Bar is only for attorneys. They still have to have a collector license in some states.

Hi! I looked around and while Arizona does have laws in which collectors must be licensed, I couldn't find a search for them. But I did come across this:
http://www.azdfi.gov/Lists/Lists.htm
This is a list of ALL active collection licensees. Download that list and look in it..if they are not listed then they are not licensed.

Thank you I will check it out! There are a couple I would like to look up. Collectcorp, Redline Recovery, United Recovery, Mann Bracken...

Mann Bracken!! aaaarggghhhhhhh!!!
One of the worst! They wouldn't have a business at all if it weren't for debtors, yet they treat the people that write their paychecks with utter contempt and complete lack of human decency. As of now they have been sued 65 times so far in 2009(!) for FDCPA violations!

I'm taking it that most of your debt is old? SOL for collections is 3 years, see: "http://law.findlaw.com/state-laws/civil-statute-of-limitations/arizona/" If it is past that time, then they cannot take you to court, and if they do you can have the case Dismissed for Time-Barred Action.
Yeah, I noticed that about Arizona. How frustrating.
Unlicensed Attorney
Hi! Thank you so much for you assistance so far. I sent a deby validation letter to John P Frye, Atlantic Credit & Finance and they actually sent me back some BS which just lists the original creditor, date of last pmt, balance etc... Not only is that NOT proper validation, I have learned that he is not licensed in AZ! He is from VA.
Question: Any ideas on what I should say in my reply?
Mann Bracken
Oh also just an FYI: Mann Bracken never responded to my validation letter, almost been 2 months! Time for another letter, I guess. I do not think that attorney was licensed either in AZ. Geez what scum!

Also trying to find out the laws concerning whether collectors have to be licensed in Arizona. I looked up John P. Frye and Atlantic Credit and Finance and neither of them are on the list of licensed collectors in AZ. So, what does that actually mean? If they are trying to collect on a debt that I have, I am in AZ and they are not licensed in AZ, are they trying to collect illegally? Do all collectors need to be licensed in the specific state where the debt is located? Any help here would be great!

I would look in your state statutes it should cover the definitions of "collection agencies" and "creditors". Here in CT I was told that a "debt buyer" acts as the "creditor". Which I find totally wrong.
Anyway, you should contact your Consumer Protection Dept. in your state and ask where you can validate a license for such company. Also, ask where you can find the laws, if your state has seperate laws than the FDCPA where you can locate them.
I know each state is different. Good Luck
