I may have glazed over this when reading about the Statutes of Limitation on Debt, but I would like to know if I'm correct in thinking that the effective S.O.L. is based on where the debt was accrued, and not where the collection agency is based.

I received a letter from MEDICREDIT INC last week informing me of a debt I (supposedly) owe being added to their files. They are based in St. Louis, MO (Missouri). The company (a medical imaging company) with which this supposed debt was initially entered is based in NY. I'm trying to confirm that the Statute of Limitation on debts in affect here would be those that apply to NY, and not MO (quite a difference in years for such a debt).

Is the Statute of Limitation on debts for the state of New York in effect if the debt was accrued in NY, but the collection agency is based elsewhere?

Thank you for your time.

lol. The avatars are random. A computer has no idea of your gender, unless you put it on your profile. And even then, there isn't a good way to compare that gender with the gender noted on an avatar and apply accordingly - it's a logistical nightmare. You can select your own avatar since you are a member, go to Edit Profile.

Indeed, I was hoping that the gender being set in the profile would have been deduced through my word choice. The forum profile doesn't seem to retain that specific information correctly for some reason.

That's not entirely true. It would be very simple for the forum author (the programmer who created it) to provide a simple conditional. For example: if the profile is marked male: choose images from this directory. If the profile is marked female, choose from another directory. Otherwise, display a default nondescript avatar.

Chances are, since it doesn't seem to be retaining the gender information (and some other ancillary bits), the board isn't configured correctly.

Hmm, there was a rather lengthy fourth post I was going to reply to as well, but it doesn't seem to be here any longer. Was it removed for some reason?

Ah, protection against plagarism is certainly a good thing. Unless, of course, the poster employed proper quoting standards to acredit the original source --- or would that have still violated the ToS?

It seemed like there was a lot of information, and it could be been pertinent, but now I'll never know.

It was a loooooong quote. The "proper quoting standards" would have been a short synopsis of what a reader could expect to find if they go to that site, and an explanation of why they should. A sentence or 3 that specifically deals with a situation responded to is ok, but generally just copy-pasting an entire page without attribution will likely be construed as a copyright violation should the copyright holder decide to aggressively pursue their rights.

It's not only against the TOS, it's unethical and against copyright laws.

Indeed.

Is there a place to make suggestions concerning the website? Having that flash video play on every-single-page is not beneficial. It should exist solely on an introductory page, or an about section. It wastes system resources having it loaded, and played, everywhere one goes in the site.
