I am new to this site and have found some really good advice here. But, I have a question about PDLs in Maine. I looked at the link that one of the mods provided and it said that pdls are not allowed in Maine (at least that I am sure that is what I read). So, if I told my 2 loans that I could not pay and closed my acct. What would be the PDLs course of action. Right now, I have:

Fastcash911--200.00
UpFront Cash--200.00

I've also just finished paying off Outback bucks as well as another loan. However, much like everyone else, I am feeling the strain. I've been paying down the loans by 50.00 a month. Can someone please advise? Thanks!!

Firstly, if the payday lenders are illegal in your state, they can at the most sue you to recover the principle amount borrowed. So, I think that you should make arrangements to pay them back the principle amount. You can visit the link http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/paydayloan/illegal-pdl-dealings.html to know about how to deal with illegal PDLs.

I have a number of payday loans, non from lenders licensed in Maine(as far as I can determine) I have faxed them written revocation of right to debit my accounts or issue a chek against my account. I have received no response from several companies, a cooperative response from one, and an outright refusal to accept any payment except by debit card, ach withdrawal, moneygram. They insist that unless payment in full in this manner is made 2 days before the scheduled debit date, they will process the ach debit. My bank has closed my account and will not process any debits against my account for the closed or new account. They will not charge me NSF fees. Ameriloan insists that they will not accept a paper check. In reality, as I total payments already made, my loan is PIF. I have faxed the same letter (with the list of companies that it was sent to) with a complaint to the state office. I am willing to pay down any remaining principal on any loan, but will not pay electronically. What are my rights in this situation?

Hello Guest,

If you're sure that the lenders are illegal in your state then you may not owe more than the principal to them. Though you haven't listed how much you owe to each of your lenders and how much you have paid so far, but I guess that you have already paid over the principal amount through interests and charges. And, if that is the case than you don't owe more to them rather you can ask refund for the amount paid over and above the principal. However, don't attach too much hope in getting back any money from the pdl lenders but it's a good way to let them know that you're aware of your rights.
