In Jan. we defaulted on our PDLs (he and I had 1 each at 3 diff. storefronts = 6 PDLs). We closed our accounts, so the checks bounced. (Had to move to our own apt bec the house we were renting a room in got foreclosed --- no choice bec it was the nearest to work, & we only share 1 car; his hours at work were cut; $2K car repair; we both went through divorces that were 5 years long overdue form our respective spouses, etc.) I made small payments but haven't been able to do so in the past 3 months. Now am getting calls from CAs (1 letter from an Allied Collection Services on their letterhead , but from a lawyer's office on the envelope) about court papers. No calls for him anymore, just me. Could it be bec my name was on his checks too? His loans were on our joint account, while mine were in my own. Haven't seen anything on our credit reports about these loans. Are these calls just a ploy to get me to pay for it ASAP? Do they have to report it on our credit before they start court proceedings? The letter from the CA I got didn't reflect the correct amount ( I owe less than what they claim). Only solution I can think of is get another PDL to repay this ASAP. But then I'll just get in a deeper hole. Is there a debt consolidation comp. that anyone can recommend? Help, I'm desperate!!!
Here's a rundown: (Amounts include $25.00 returned check fee); amounts in brackets[$] are payments already made on the loans.
ACE Cash Express -
902.50 (his) [200.00]
727.00 (mine)[200.00]
Rapid Cash -
555.00 (his) [200.00]
1025.00 (mine) [200.00]
Cash Box -
721.00 (his) [300.00]
721.00 (mine) [300.00]

These accounts are already 6 months past due, so the EPP would definately not be an option. You need to contact all three comapnies and make arrangements with them. They may be small, but at this point you're atleast showing effort. Since they are legal storefronts, they have quite a few options and your goal now is to keep them at bey. Make the call sooner than later and see what they say.
