i had a cc for chase that went bad last yr. i am getting harrassing calls from a 3rd party collection, the debt is up to 6000 dollars now.. what can i do to take care of it? they will settle for 3k, but i cant pay the thousand they request a month. UCB or UBC is the collection agency. thank you.

As per the FDCPA, the creditor or the collection agency need to send you a dunning letter within 5 days of initial communication in order to start the process of debt collection. If they have not done so, they cannot legally collect the debt. If they harass you, file a complaint against them with the FTC.
You should not make a single payment before you get your debt validated. Moreover, settlement agreement should always be taken in writing before you pay it off.
