Getting ready for mediation

Have a couple of questions...
Last month I was served summons for a BOA account that is now being handled by "TRS Financial Corporation." In preperation for my hearing I'm gathering all the documents I've recv'd throughout the years. Last payment was 10/2006...
I have a letter from the law office that is suing me dated May 12, 2009. I have another letter from the CA that hired the law office dated the same day, so I'm not sure if they came in the same envelope...BUT, they are the EXACT same letter except the heading of one shows the LAW FIRMS name and the heading of the other shows the COLLECTION AGENCY'S name...same address/phone numbers etc listed below, the only diff is the office names...the bottom of one letter is signed by the attorney's office the other letter signed by the collection agency. Can they collection agency use a letter head with the attorney's office information?
Also, what is the difference in mediation and an outright court hearing...is this normal to always have mediation first?
Thanks guys!

I could be wrong, but meiation is probably like a pre-trial or case management meeting. You will probably be asked if you want to settle or not. Have you received any type of documentation proving that the alleged debt is yours, and that the amount is correct, and that the CA is legally entitled to collect it?
