My husband received a call from a company by the name of WNYC...they called his employer, got their fax number and faxed a document asking for info (SS#,Wage Amount..etc.). They also called his friends telling them that they are co-defendents and saying that they will be summoned to testify against him in court....unless they get him to call them to resolve the issue!! They also told our friend that they were on their way to her house to get her to sign some documents...wth?! :?
What should we do to get them to stop calling? The C & D letter template which I found on the site does nothing to inform these scammers that we know they are illegal...

file complaint with the federal trade commission(FTC), i told the CA that i did that and he started stuttering and then hung up. the FTC told me that CA's are not allowed to threaten or disclose information to anyone else but you. and they are to obey the cease and desist letters. these are all part of FDCPA regulations that all CA's must abide by. this was what the FTC told me and you can also read the rules on the FTC.gov website. if they threaten to call the cops or sheriff, i already contacted police in my area and also police and sheriff from where they called from and they all told me the same thing that they have better things to do than to arrest people for a debt which they won't do. the police told me to file with the FTC and attorney general of your state for something like this. good luck to your family :)
