Nope, they actually spoke English. I know they can't file criminal charges against me in TX, but I am concerned about civil charges, although since they won't provide me with any information about the debt they don't sound like a legitimate company. But I guess my question is, can they actually do that?

wait, youre in texas? Send them a debt validation letter IMMEDIATELY. In TX, they have 30 days to give you validation, OR ELSE they cannot collect on the debt. its as simple as that! You have the name of the firm, so search the mailing address and send them a certified letter requesting validation of this debt. Dont wait for them to send you a letter, send it off ASAP. Then, they will do one of three things--
1--ignore your DV request and keep trying to collect, in which case you sue them and file a complaint with your state attorney generals office
2--send you validation, in which case you compare it to your old bank records.
3--they have the option to stop all contact with you and not try to collect the debt at all.
Let us know what happens!

Whoa, I didn't know that. The last conversation I had with the woman yesterday, I told her again that I wouldn't send any money anywhere until they provided me with proof of the debt, and she just got ugly and said she couldn't. I've googled the name "Trent Patrick and Associates" and all I can find anywhere is one of those 1-800 Notes webpages where people list calls they've received from that number. I'll send the letter immediately if I can find an address. Does anyone have any info on this company or can anyone suggest any other methods I can try to find an address? Thanks!
Trent Patrick and "Associates"
I just got off the phone with these people. there is no validity to this "debt" and when pushed to have them forward me information they became extremely rude and threatening. i'm planning on contacting the attorney general's office. Thanks for sharing your story. I know now what to do next. Good Luck

I was called from 1-988-964-8194 with the same type of threat concerning an old online debt. They said their name was Johnson and Johnson, but gave the 7910 Bay Meadows Way address in Jacksonville, Florida. I spoke to three different people. Each time I asked a question about their identity or something specific, I was given to another person, each more hostile. I am not sending them $200 by tomorrow morning. I am going to start getting all the information I can each time I am called and contact Homeland Security on this illegal activity.

Here's an update (I was the original poster in this thread): I haven't heard from the lovely folks at Trent Patrick again, and I did file a complaint with the TX when this originally happened since they refused to provide me with debt validation. Today, I pulled my credit report and a company called National Credit Adjusters is reporting that they are collecting the debt for Fash Cast Loans (an internet payday lender). So my question is, was Trent Patrick a complete scam? Should I try contacting NCA to see if they actually hold the debt? BTW, the original loan was $350, and the amount on my credit report is $748. Any advice will be appreciated!

Being in Texas you have a whole slew of rights. What you should do is send a Debt Validation letter straight away to NCA demanding that they provide you with proof you owe $748, otherwise they are to immediately remove this information from your credit file. Also include a written notice giving them 60 days to comply. (They have 30 days to give you validation, but the written notice is so that if you have to sue them, you can now sue them for triple.)
You really should read up on Texas debt collection laws.....also check to see if the lender is registered...I can't recall where at the moment but it is on the net....any lender MUST be licensed to lend to anyone in the state of TX..if they are not then they entered into a fraudulent contract with you and you are not obligated to pay them a thing. I am thinking they are not holding a license because they are charging you more then double what the original loan amount was.
