i just deleted about 18 of the stupid posts--hope someone can keep an eye out--will have to leave in a second!..karen

If he knew what he is doing, he'd probably get bored :) but for the
moment we have no other option other than deleting them manually and we APPRECIATE your effort in keeping this forum clean.

If we now change the structure in the log in section, it will affect the user friendly nature of this site.

What can we do?
If you find 'similar' spams put up either by the same user or 'similar type' of spams posted with different user ids then you can pm me ONE sample spam post (based on your judgment) while deleting the rest. I can then either block those ips' or ban those ids'.

I deleted about thirty of these mixed letter bot posts tonight only to find another page after I was done! It would be a good thing if we could hold down the control key and delete them all at once! The one at a time with three steps are too time consuming. A pistol does not work in an assault rifle situation. We need fire power!

Get rid of spams in one go - fire power.. :)

First of all thanks for clearing the mess. These spams seem to be originating from the debt settlement forum. In order to delete the spams you can go to the settlement forum, click on one particular spam post (I guess by now you know them by their headings) then below the post is a section called Moderate this forum ??? click here and you will get a list of recent posts. You are required to identify the spams, select the check boxes adjacent to them and click on the delete button. In this way you can delete lots of spams at one go. Try it out and if there is any problem you can send me a message.

one example here..

Just free thinking here...

Maybe it is possible to setup the login page to use a TCP port other than 80. Then block 80 since that is what the bots will likely try to use.

Although that would have discouraging effects to users who have the login page bookmarked, since they'd have to type in "http://www.debconsolidationcare.com:XXXX", where XXXX is the new port #.

Honestly, I don't even know if you could do a single page on a different port; thinking about it, I seem to think the whole site might have to shift over that port. Just thinking out loud...

Nevermind, I split the topic into two threads and deleted the entire thread of spam. It still took me a great deal of time just placing check marks into the posts I wanted to split. Do the Admins realize how much time some of we Mods spend at this forum just moving, editing and deleting topics and spam? It would be nice if we Mods could somehow be compensated for each action we take instead of just receiving points for every post we make, we actually put in a lot more time and effort into this forum them just members do- but receive the same compensation. I hope it doesn't sound like I am complaining because that isn't my intention. My actual intention is for the Admins to know just how much time the Mods actually put into this forum, and to request additional compensation for our efforts. OK, bye, lol. :?

Thanks for the pm. Nice work !

MODS in future if you come across "similar" spams posted by the same spammer either by using the same id or different ids, please pm me one such sample URL along with the POST ( without deleting anything in that thread). This will help me to find the IP of the user. Thereafter I can block that particular IP or ban the spammer. You can delete the remaining spams though. :)

We are putting in our best effort to find out ways to block them with our new software. Like I said before please bear with us till it is not done. We understand that it takes time to carry out MODERATION activities and appreciate your effort for the same.

Shazz, I have passed on your proposal to the Management. Hopefully we will work out a solution for the same in the future depending on how the new software works.

In my case, I just split the topic which made two seperate topics, how about if I move the spammed topic into the Mod section? All that would be left over in the split topic would be nothing but spam anyways, that way you guys will be able to view it yourself and see the IP numbers, etc. What do you think?

How to split spam posts from existing thread !

MODs' you don't need to select posts individually to split a thread. If you find spams after few normal posts then select the
first spam post and click on "Split from selected post" button and not "Split selected posts" button. Give a subject heading. Then select the destination forum (in Mod forum in this case). On doing this the posts thereafter will go to the new forum.

How to move multiple spam posts (new ones) to Moderator forum from settlement forum !

This process is similar to the Deletion process I showed you previously in this thread itself (ref. my previous post).
Only difference instead of clicking the Delete button you will click on the Move button (after identifying the spams). Then select the destination forum (in this case the Moderator forum). Also please don't forget to remove the check mark sign - Leave shadow topic in old forum.

Once its shifted to the Mod forum, we will do the needful.
