Garnish Bank acct without being notified of judgement

Just curious, i've seen people on here get their bank accts garnished without any notification of judgement. If I know for a fact the CA has the proper address, do they have to notify me or the court notify me of an impending judgement/case/garnishment? I was curious about that. It is for a private loan, not federal at all.
