I sent a debt validation letter to AFNI for an old item on my credit report, due to come off in 4/2010. I received a "validation" letter from them today stating "This letter confirms the original creditor and balance of your account" and they attached an old Verizon "final bill" from 2003, with just the amount due, no break down at all... I also received an email alert from Equifax stating: The following changes were reported for your ANDERSON FIN NETWORK/BLOOM account :
Date Opened Changed from N/A to 12/01/2006.

My questions are: does this constitute as a validation? Also, ia AFNI allowed to make changed to their credit entry when I am disputing with them? Thanks!

As far as proper validation, there is a lot of debate about that in different circles. However, as far as they are concerned, you are not disputing the debt. You asked for validation, and they sent it, in their opinion. You need to find out what the SOL is for this type of account in your state. If it is from 2003, then there is a chance it is beyond the SOL, and you have that as a defense.
