We keep getting automated calls from Palisade Collections, LLC. The automated call says it's them, leaves a call back number and a reference number to use when calling back. However, when you call back their number, they require you input your social security number to go any further - they don't require you to put in the reference number they gave you.

Is this legal? I have attempted to contact them via certified mail, return receipt, for a DV and to inform them to cease calls as the debt is being disputed (they have attempted to collect a debt from my husband before that was not his). I have received both return receipts from the certified mail, but nothing about debt verification. WE REFUSE TO GIVE THEM HIS SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!!

no they have no right to ask for that.if you do a search in the bar up top.you should be able to find an address to send a DV letter.send it certified mail return receipt.once they receive that.they cannot continue to collect.that means no calls,no letters, nothing.if they do,then you can take legal action against them.

I have sent them TWO certified letters with return receipt requested. Both letters asked for DV and to stop calling because we are disputing the debt (they have tried to collect a debt that wasn't my husband's already once before - and it ended up on his credit report, but was easily removed because the social securities number, and middle name of the actual debtor didn't even match.)

I have received both cards back acknowledging they have received both letters. NO DV yet (the first letter sent 8/5/09). They STILL CALL approximately twice a day with the automated caller.

Their automated call leaves a "reference number" for us to use when we return our call. BUT, they don't ask us for that, instead they ask for the social security number in order to go any further. Our certified letters did not include any information about my husband except first and last name and the reference number they use when they call us.

yes it is.i would seriously look into your legal options.it doesn't matter how they call.they are not allowed to.they are breaking the law and should be sued.
