For the last two weeks or so, some of my creditors have taken to calling my neighbors concerning my debt. My neighbor lady is a retired widow in poor health and tells me she really does not appreciate these calls. I have friends who tell me it is actually illegal for them to be violating my privacy in this way. I did not provide the creditors with her number, nor do I appreciate them bothering her or any one else with my business. I have also been told it may be possible to sue them for this practice. I would appreciate any help on this matter. I live in Pa if that makes a difference in the laws... Thank you.

They have the right to call your neighbors to relay a message to you to call them but if I am not mistaken they can only call ones (similar to them calling your employer to verify you work there) and they can not at all refer to what the call is concerning. If the collector mentioned this was for a past due debt then that would be a violation of the FDCPA. Can you say he name of the creditor calling?

the creditor is Citi bank. They have been very nasty. When they first started calling me, I told them we were looking into bankruptcy, but they still kept asking for large payments I couldn't afford. Needless to say, I quit taking their calls. Now they have taken to calling my neighbor like three times a day even. Where can I find one of these cease call letters please?

The thing I would like to know is are you sure it is Citi calling neighbors or a collection agency playing the "role" of a Citi bank personnel? If it is Citi bank a C&D letter will not work as they are the original creditor and allowed to call you about a debt. If the debt is over 120 days late I would assume it's a collection agency.

You can view here for a sample C&D letter by going to google and typing in "sample cease and desist letter. You must send it certified mail to proof you sent it but I would also fax it out tonight to stop the calls (and when I mean fax it out I mean send it roughly 8 times so there is no denying they got it).
