I had payday loans which I paid off over the internet. Now I keep getting calls from collectors claiming to be either government officers or police officers. they are threatning to pass details of the loan they claim that i owe to the alabama attorney general and to have me arrested.

What should i do?

file FTC complaints.i would not talk to them again.they broke the law,and you will not be arrested.debts are civil matters.not criminal ones.

Seems these callers are coming on to people in epidemic proportions lately, doesn't it? If they're representing themselves as being from a government agency and name the agency (I've seen one post where they said they'd bring FBI agents to the home), should a complaint also be filed w/ the govt. agency they say they're affiliated with?

call the AG and see if he actually is owed this money (which I highly doubt) but then you can just tell these people if they call back that you spoke to the attorney general personally and he says that you don't owe him anything and that they are big scam artists. it is also a federal offense to impersonate a govt officer or claim to be a police officer. file complaint with FTC and tell them that you did. put them on 3-way(if you can) with the police to comfirm their identities and i bet they will be stuttering and/or hang up.
