After a year of working with a debt settlement company (Persels and Associates)- making monthly payments I received a court summons letting me know that I was being sued by my creditor. My settlement group has not been paying my debt nor returning any phone calls. I spoke to the collection agency which now owns my debt and they want me to pay 80% by Friday of this week and they say it will not go to court. Should I do this? I feel like I am being scammed on every side. I just want this debt gone- but I don't want to end up paying the wrong people. Help!

It's not unusual to get sued even when you're in a settlement program. At the most the settlement company can negotiate with the creditor to accept the settlement proposal but it'd be the creditor's discretion to accept or reject it.

Anyway, if you feel that the settlement firm hasn't done enough to protect your interest, you can file a complaint against them with the FTC.
