8/24/09 my wife received a collection letter from RJM ACQUISITIONS, it was addressed to our address and had a name slightly similar to hers and listed a partial S.S. # and a previous address neither of which are hers.
I have read nothing good about RJM ACQUISITIONS and am curious about how to deal with them, I should have just marked it "addressee not at this address" and returned it, but it's too late for that now.
The letter is for overdraft charges, and again they are not hers.
I have drafted a letter stating that we have never had a checking account with the bank referenced, had never even visited the state listed as our previous address let alone lived there, that she is not the person referenced, and that this is not her S.S. #.
I am just curious as to how I should handle this, should I dispute it on these grounds, or include the letter without the dispute, or simply mark their letter "addressee not at this address" and return it to them in their prepaid envelope?

Send them a DV letter to the address on their letter. Send it CMRRR. They have to stop collection activities until they validate the debt. If they send you validation, then you can dispute it with them that they have the wrong person. If they have the wrong SSN and address, then they will not be able to validate that the debt is hers. If they continue trying to collect and they cannot prove that you owe it, then contact your state AG.
