Proof of Payment

I gave a CA my information to make a payment over the phone, and he said he would send me proof of payment towards the debt, but as of day three he has not provided anything by email or fax. I am thinking of stopping the next payment (is that legal?). Are CAs obligated to provide proof of payment to debtors, showing the funds were used towards payment of the debt?
