My wife and I are in over our head and need advice in getting help. My wife lost here job and exhausted unemployment benefits, my pay has been cut due to my companies poor performance in this economy. We have over 140,000 in unsecured credit card debt which we have fallen behind on. There is no equity in our house as the mortgage is near the value of the house/property. We have come up with a little bit of cash and would like to try and settle with some of the credit card co's. I'm scared to do this on my own !! Looking for help.

I agree with Soap Lady. In your situation, you need to keep your cash for emergencies. Your living expenses should always come first over paying debt. Bankruptcy may be your best bet. Hope things improve for you. Try to remember what matters most in life and it's not money.

im a big advocate of settlement but i too must agree that your best bet is bk. you have such a large amount of debt that you are ultimately gonna end up in court. find yourself a good attorney if you are still unsure. but stewart is correct you are goin to need to be able to eat and pay for livining expenses. there are worse things in life other than debt good luck to you.
