There are 3 credit reporting agencies. TrnasUnion, Equifax and Experian. I would recommend you request a copy of your report from all 3. It may not be on one report, but it could be on another. If your B of A was charged off, most likely the company calling you did buy the debt. You can try to settle with them, just make sure you get all the proper paperwork done before you pay them, so that it doesn't pop up again.

I did all three, and it's not on any. I've learned from this site that the law firm is shady (Scott Lowery). What's all the proper paperwork, validation letters? I'll pay it in full, what is the legal receipt to show i paid? I don't want to pay and have them screw me over.

Not all CAs/JDBs report to the bureaus ..... Or maybe if they just recently bought it, then they haven't reported to the bureaus yet.
You can send a DV to them, requesting proof of the debt as well as an assignment from BOA to them. Or call BOA and ask them who they sold the debt too. Get something in writing from them showing that if you pay $XXXX, they will consider the account satisfied and release all claims it may hold in regards to said debt. Then pay them with something you'll have proof of (ie cancelled check or money order, which will have their endorsement on the back). After its paid, get them to give you a paid-in-full letter as well.
