Ok, so I was contacted by 'The Law Offices' last Tuesday for an old PDL I took out with First Bank of Delaware (Check N Go) back in 10-07. I know I owe the debt, I even paid over $1300 before I had to default on the loan. The balance owed is almost $1400, but 'The Law Offices' is willing to settle for $500.00, paid in 2 payments via Moneygram, payable to Integrity Management Group. The original creditor is listed as Check N Go Installment Loan & the current creditor is listed as Resolution Management, LLC. The address given for 'The Law Offices' is a P.O Box 1006 in Amherst, NY. Phone # is (866)554-1014. Once funds have cleared 'The Law Offices' will update the account as PAID IN FULL with credit reporting agencies. I have all of this information in writing. I am willing to settle & pay for the debt, as I know I owe it. My only concern is that I am paying a legitimate source & that this debt IS paid off. I do not want to pay whom I think is a valid owner of the debt only to have another CA contact me in a few months claiming I still owe this debt. Asking for advice, is it wise for me to pay the $500 & settle the debt or am I being scammed?
Again, the debt IS legit & I do have all of this in writing from 'The Law Offices'. Many thanks in advance!!

While there isn't a way to really prove this outside of a court of law, you have it *IN WRITING*. If they turn around and sell it to someone else or they are not the legitimate owners/representatives of the debt, then sue them for damages plus $1,000 plus possible court costs and attorney fees.

Not to mention, how can you think you are being scammed and at the same time:

Since you have it in writing, pay the settlement and be done with it.

Thankyou so much for the responses!

I was a bit leary because I searched 'The Law Offices' on this site & found a thread of people who said they were scams. I tried to google them & found nothing. I KNOW the debt is legit, my only concern is if the collector is legit!! BUT, since I was able to get the offer in writing & you responded as such, I feel much better about the settlement. Thought it would be wise to get advice from those here who are more experienced & knowledgebale than myself to make sure I was making the right decision in sending in the money.
Thanks again for the advice! So happy that this will be paid for & no longer weighing over my mind.
