To contact or not to contact Wells Fargo?

Wells Fargo evidently recently charged off my $12,000 line of credit because it disappeared from online banking. Last payment I made was in March, so that's about 6 months. I have not heard anything from them since about the first 60 or 90 days I was late. Should I be worried about a surprise lawsuit? Should I be contacting them trying to resolve the matter (even though I lack funds for a settlement until at least January), or should I hold off and wait for them to approach me?
