The law firm of Lyons,Doughty & Vekdhuis in New Jersey just issued me a summons, the court papers arrived first. I asked for a validation of debt in April 2009, the only thing that they provided was the amount and listed GE Finance as the creditor, which I received in July.
I believe that this info is listed on my credit report, since the law firm did not list the creditor as JC Pennys.
My question is do law firms have to follow the same guide lines as do the Collection Agency do?

I sent them a letter requesting for Validation of Debt. I received a Verification of Debit, stating the amount and name of creditor who originally owned this Debit as GE Finance,( no address). The account number on all the paper work does not match my JC Penny account number. What details have to be listed on the Validation of Debt?

I also did the same requesting a validation of debt from a law firm and I replied stating that the amount is different from what the creditor quoted me with a copy of the statement enclosed provided by the creditor.(the amount is $800 greater than the creditors amount). I then requested a statement showing total amount with all fees included to provide me on how they came to this amount and they have not done that. They constantly call stating that they would like to talk but all I want is that paper showing how this amount was calculated. Is there anything else I can do. I am willing to pay them but if they cannot provide what I asked, I don't think I should be required to pay the greater amount. Am I correct to think this?
