I have been receiving numerous calls per day from "unknown." I finally got so many of them that I blocked anonymous calls on my phone. However, assuming these are from a debt collector, will this make them more upset if I block them? I would hate for them to call my neighbors or friends. They almost never leave a message by the way. The one message that was left on the answering machine yesterday (after 11 unknown calls) was music playing and asking me to hold for a representative. The recording was a woman's voice with a British accent. The call came to my answering machine when I was not there so no one every picked up.

Does anyone know who this might be? Secondly, do you think it is okay to block unknown numbers? I assume if it is a collection agency, they will just have to call with their number rather than calling unknown?? I just don't know if it is a mistake to block them is what I am asking about I guess.

They are forbidden to call third parties except for one time to locate you which they have already done! There is nothing wrong with blocking unknown calls or any calls for that matter! It is your right to privacy just like an umlisted phone number! There is the mail. If they refuse to use it that is their problem!

Have you recently defaulted on a payday loan? I know there are a lot of lenders who operate overseas.

I, too, have been receiving calls from an Unknown caller. I have not been here so my daughter answered today. She said it rang first and when it answered, there was a lot of noise in the background and then a woman asked for me. Any idea which agency calls unknown and then you have to wait and be transferred to someone?

I hope this is not United Legal again although they have always left nasty messages before. This unknown number has called several times the past few days per my daughter.

I, too, have had problems with unknown calls showing up on caller ID. They sometimes call 8 or 9 times per day. My daughter answered one today and she said when she answered it, it rang back to someone and then a woman asked for me. They never ever leave a message. Any idea who this might be?? I have not heard of anyone that when you answer it rings back to them. Any ideas??
