Citi - ARS Settlment offer
Date: Tue, 10/20/2009 - 13:01
I have a urgent question. Citibank via ARS National has offered to settle with me for $3k on $10K balance. They have emailed me the settlement offer. The text of the email contains all the settlement text that you normally see in the settlement offer. But it is not signed.....they are saying its a legally binding contract but it makes it fishy. Should I go ahead and send them a Cashiers check overnighting it? Can someone please tell me if and how to send the money to protect myself in case they dont keep their word after the fact.
Thanks a lot,
Sacdude

I personally will only send money via money order or cashiers check. However I'm not sure about the letter not being signed.
I don't know if that makes a difference or not, and to be truthful, I hope someone comes a long and knows the answer as I have a settlement offer that isn't signed either. It's also for a Citi debt, but a different CA. Mine just states that after I make the payment that it will be listed on my credit report as "settlement for less than full amount owed" and that I'll receive a paid off letter after they receive payment from me.
Hopefully you get the answers you're looking for. But whatever you do, I wouldn't give them your checking account numbers. Once they have those they can drain you dry.
