if I am in the state of Ohio, can I legally close my bank account to stop access and not have criminal chages from it?

I live in Ohio also, when I went to close the account the only issue I had was that it had a negative balance and I could not close it until I brought it current. Now that said, contact your bank or an attorney fo that matter. I am not aware of any criminal charges because a majority of issues that deal with banks, debt and etc are civil matters. I will say this though, there may be an issue if you are closing an account so you don't have to pay a debt. Now if you close the account, are you able to open another, in my case I had to go to a sub-prime bank that offers "second chance checking". Again call the bank and/or attorney.
