We recently recieved a letter from UCR regarding my husbands AMEX cc account. He attempted to contact AMEX and see if he could work directly with them and they just told him no and that he had to talk to UCR. However AMEX also sends a letter saying that we could go onto the AMEX website and make a payment to them. How do we get AMEX to talk to us, we want to settle with them. The account is 90 days late.

I don't have the number, but try to get a hold of the Amex collections dept., or just try calling back at different times to see if you get a better rep that will work with you.

I just looked at a notice I got from Amex (we can work it out etc) a couple weeks before they sent it to United Recovery Service and it just says to call the number on the back of the card.

However, early in the process, I explained my situation and Amex basically assigned me to a woman in their hardship(?) dept. who I believe had a little more flexibility than the regular reps.

Don't quote me, but I believe URS is just doing contract collection work for Amex if the account is only 90 days, so Amex could pull it back. I say this because the first time I talked to someone from URS, they didn't identify themselves as URS. They said they were calling representing Amex. And I am probably a little over 90 days.

Doesn't hurt to try and call a few more times.

Thanks for the advice that is what I was thinking too...I figure since this is the first time in 90 days we have contacted AMEX they might need some poking before wanting to talk more.
