Anyone heard of icollectdebt.net? I received a call threatening to prosecute for check fraud. On a payday loan from Cash Connect Company (which I have never heard of) When I thought about it, there was one company that I put a stop payment on because they had taken $75 out every other week on payday and had already taken out way more than the original $250. I called that company and was told that debt had been sent to collection agency. And that the only way was to contact the agency by email at customerservice@icollectdebt.net. I did email it, asking about balance owed and debt info. Is this the same people who called me stated they were lawyers and pressing federal charges and threatened to have me arrested? He stated his name was Attorney Frances and that I had till 5pm yesterday. But never told me what I had till 5 pm to do? Have never received any written collection attempts. The people had left a message that I could barely understand when I called back they did not answer the phone professionally (ie. You have reached....) and seemed confused that I was calling them. but then claimed he was lawyer. Later I looked up the # and it is in California and unlisted. Means a lawyer would have to be answering the phone at 5am since I called at 8 am EST?

So where do I go from here? Do the state statutes that cap interest on small loans cover this?

icollect usually attempts to collect on illegal lenders. Any legit company would not call you and threaten you this way. It would be in your best interest to file a complaint with your Attorney General and the FTC. I don't know what state you are in but usually criminal charges are prohibited when defaulting on payday loans. And besides, you can't go to jail for owing a debt. I would tell this company they are violating the FDCPA by making false threats against you, I would also tell them you will do NOTHING until you receive a letter of collection via the mail, as required by the federal law.

I have just been contacted by a "collection agency" saying they are the legal offices of Oasis Marketing Group. This is a on-line payday loan in which I had taken a loan with in the past. They called me today threatening me that if I didn't send 600.00 by 8pm tonight I would be arrested and brought up on Felony charges. Can they do that????

No they can NOT! They are full of crap! Owing a debt is NOT a criminal offense.
