Okay-Home Depot did a charge off on me early last year. I have been mailing payments directly to them since April of last year. Every month they cash. THere is no collection agency involved here.

I mailed a payment last month just as I do every month===today it shows back up at my house. Its the same address I have mailed payment to every month. They opened my letter---put it in a plan peice of white paper, folded it over, stapled and put 'return to sender Not at this address'on the outside of the envelope.

anyone make anything of this? are they saying that they're no longer accepting my payments?
Now what?

THe address that I have mailed to all along is-

Home depot
P.O.Box 105981 dept 51
atlanta georgia 30353-5981

I have done this for the past nine months now. They have accepted eight payments until this one.

definitely confused (AGAIN)
Shirley

I checked back to see if I could find any other addresses for home depot and a phone number. I did find a letter from them in 2003 when I was on a debt management program, and the address on the letter was...

Home Depot credit services
Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia, creditor
P.o. Box 103047
Roswell, Ga. 30076

Okay--should I write a letter and send it to these people explaining all the activity I've done since April on the home depot account and now Decembers check has been sent back?? and see what they have to say about it?

what I don't get, all these months, they have cashed my check--if suddenly they find the amount unacceptable or whatever--why didn't they send me explaination????? I haven't heard one word from anyone on this account since I started paying, so thought everything was okay.

This is my life. just when I think I might be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel--this happens.
my house leaks-my car leaks-paying for daughters books and college-just found out that she needs a root canal and now my stove just went out. And I thought 2006 was going to be better. how stupid am I?
I feel like throwing my hands in the air but I know I have to keep plugging.Because as bad as it is, it could be better, I just don't see how right now today.

I did find a statement from home depot right before I went into charge off---
The address on it was

Home Depot Credit services
Processing center
Des Moines, IA 50364-0500

now, who should I send this letter to? To the Bank in Georgia or to home depots processing center?
Thank you! I just want to make sure the right person gets it so I can find out whats going on.

Home Depot had been receiving money from you since the last eight months at a fixed address. Send your written query to this address only where you had been sending your money all throughout. Last time when you were in the management program with them in 2003, that address might have changed by now. The address before your account went charged off also cannot be fully relied.

I am assuming from your post that Home Depot keeps changing their address quite frequently. However, as your letter has been opened, it makes me feel that they are still available at that address. Call them over the phone and get their explanation.

Shirley,

Chances are they are no more using this P.O. Box. Speak to them before you send next installment.

Your account statement could be served as evidence that they cashed the checks. However, don't forget to make certain that they provide acknowledgements of your payments this time.

okay, I have wrote three letters to Home depot

one is addressed to:
Home Depot Credit Services (processing center)

the next is:
Home Depot Credit Services
Monogram credit Card Bank of Georgia

the third is where I was sending payments:
Home Depot
Atlanta Georgia

My question is, which one should I send certified return receipt or should I send all three this way? maybe not on the third one where I send my payments to, since they just sent my letter back to me. It was opened though. they opened it so someone did receive it.

So if I picked one to send certified, which one? or does it really need to be all three?

thanks!! shirley

Hi Shirley,

Hope you have a nice day ahead :D

Sending your letters certified is always important because by doing this, you can prove the time and date when you took the actions to resolve the dispute.

You have reasons to prove that someone received your letter in the place where you previously sent your payment to. Had it not been sent through certified mail, you would have had no trail.

I know that there are additional costs incurred in it, but perhaps, that's the way of covering your bases. If you intend to bring any legal actions later, the lawyer will ask for proof which you are gathering now.

Roxette

Hi Roxette. I had to leave the house this morning before anyone could answer me about this situation with home depot, since I was going to be at the post office while I was out, I went ahead and made the decision. I sent all three letters to home depot, certified. :D Also sent one to wells fargo about that other account. I've given up on writing to the collection agency. I have written wells fargo before but not lately and not certified. So I went in that direction, sent it certified. Will wait and see if I get an answer this way. thanks!! shirley

okay an update on this situation with home depot.

Remember I had sent a payment to home depot in December (one of nine in a row) and it was returned to me? so I decided to hold payment back until I wrote them to find out what was going on, and why my payment/letter was being returned after eight months of sending payments to this same address?

Well, the last thing I posted was that I had found two other addresses for home depot other than the one that I was mailing to. So I wrote letters to all three addresses, certified return receipt. I've gotten two green cards on two of the addresses. (so I am waiting to see what they tell me).

BUT the other address, which is the one that returned my payment/letter last month, just returned my letter once again. I got it back today...had to sign for my own green card. It says

BOX CLOSED-No forwarding order Atlanta P&CD.

so apparently
BRYAN YOU WERE RIGHT.

so, do I wait to hear from home depot telling me where to send payment now? I had wrote explaining charge off and how I was keeping up payments every month but the last one was returned and I didn't understand why, so could they check into this and help me?

Is this what I should do, wait to hear from them? theres no collection agency involved in this.
BUT its not home depot listed on report, its CITIBANK. Which is the financing behind Home Depots charge card. They last updated on 11/2004. They're not showing any recent payments that I've made, like some of my other accounts have.
I do have copies of all checks sent to them since the charge off.

Guess I will just have to wait and see what they tell me if they write back.

thanks, shirley

This is a very strong proof that you sent your payment as usual but none was there to accept it, so it is their fault not yours. Moreover you have tried to contact them at as many addresses you can and receipts are back to you now, right?

IMHO, you should wait for them to contact you. What else can you do at this stage? Perhaps you are afraid of your credit being hurt by late payments. If Home Depot puts a derogatory mark in your report, you can write a Goodwill letter to them requesting for removal of the negative marks that you are not responsible for. Keep us update on this matter.

P.S. Thanks for appreciating my avatar. I was just thinking to change it???but I won't ;)

Its already in the charge off mode and the last time they updated was 11/2004. And theres not a collection agency in charge. I have been dealing straight with home depot-on my own-, never heard from a collection agency on this matter. Just trying to do what I know is right in paying this debt off.

I will take your advice and just sit tight. there really isn't anything I can do at this point. just wait to hear back from them.

receipts are back to you now, right?

correct--I did get the other two back--two out of three that were sent, the third being the one I got returned to me today that I signed for.

I understand, it will be putting your credit down for next few years. That is the reason perhaps you are so keen to get it paid. Have you tried speaking to them? Call them if you have any number or search it from BBB. See what they recommend.

My experiance is that Home Depot would rather you make your payment directly to the stores in your area. They can do that at any register or the ss desk.

well, that might would work if my account was still in 'good standing' with home depot, but its in 'charge off' mode and I've been sending payments to them at the original place/address that I was given to send my payments to when I first opened my account. Guess they closed their PO box, gez, it would have been nice if they had of bothered to tell their customers. I have wrote three home depot corporate offices, explaining what has been going on and what I should do next (as where to send my payments to). I haven't heard anything back so far. I am not dealing with a collection agency on this. It never went to collections. I jumped right in and started making payments on my own to home depot myself. that should account for something in itself. So my check was returned to me, and now I'm waiting to see what they tell me to do. hope they don't pull a fast one on me. But if they do, I'm ready!! thanks for your advice though Ken. I appreciate it. shirley

Hey Shirley, if you have old statements, do they have a phone number? Why don't you just try calling them and asking them whats up? If you have been paying all along, they will probably be willing to give you a new payment address... Not Every Single Little Communication needs to be written/cmrr, sometimes a simple phone call is all it takes to kick start the process again.

This is the reason I would never want a home depot or Lowes account, I'd run that sucker up so high I'd never be able to pay it off.... hahaha

UPDATE:
Shirley, From their website, here is the number for Credit Card Customer Service 1-866-875-5488.
