Okay I know that when something is assigned to collections, that they send you something out notifying you. You then can let them know you dispute the report and request all the information etc. Then you can work with them based on what they have.

Yesterday I get a call from this guy who tells me I was expecting him? I tell him no that I have no idea who he is. I had an idea he was collections, but for whom and what no clue. I know everything is recorded so I answer carefully. He tells me USAA filed something with him. Tells me that they have offered a settlement amount and that I have to pay it by friday. He tells me that I have to pay it in full, that if I don't by friday then according to the state i'm in the amount is going to quadruple and it's going to be very bad etc. Basically he's threatening me but without coming out and saying anything entirely incriminating. I tell him well the settlement won't work, I need to see everything they have filed with you because that amount is no where near anything I ever owed them at all, and that I had a clear understanding that I paid USAA in full and it was a closed matter over a year ago. He says they won't take anything but the full settlement, that they "filed" the report with him, and that I have until Friday. He won't tell me anything else, and basically hangs up on me after telling me to get a loan from someone or use someone's credit card to pay them, or things will get alot worse. He's calling from an 859 number? He gave me an 800 number to call, that when I called today to speak with him, simply disconnected after his message. His name is Steve Ellis supposedly. I talked to USAA today. They did indeed place it for collection with him, which in and of itself is a problem. I wasn't lying to the guy when I said I paid them in full over a year ago. USAA won't give me the statements and documentation without charging me 10 bucks PER STATEMENT. Steve Ellis says he has nothing to give me.

What in the holy heck do I do? This can't be right legally????? I have to do something because nothing can ever hit a court of law. My husband is in a job that can't ever have anything to do with bad money stuff. I didn't manage mymoney right, but I never ducked out on them. I worked with them diligently for over a year and paid them. I never tried to duck out. I'm only saying this because I asked for help in another forum and they told me that it was my fault and to get over it since I was bad with money in the past, that's just what happens.

who is USAA?what does that stand for?also what state are you in,and was this an internet loan?sounds like not only a bottomfeeder pdl,but if you do a search upper right bar.there is a couple of threads related to the moronic steve ellis, and SRA.i would file AG,and FTC complaints against both parties.next time stevie calls tell him confidently that you will not indulge his stupidity without something in writing.then tell USAA that you are filing AG complaints against them.then do it.

USAA is a huge bank, usually only for the military and related families. I am in the state of California but I am not a legal resident here. I am a legal resident of Nevada. It was a normal Visa credit card that I had with them.

I'm really afraid this Ellis guy will go right to legal action. I didn't tell him anything about what I do. He did ask about USAA and how I was a member. I told him that I had been since I was a small child. I think he was fishing for job, military status, marital status etc. No dice buddy.

I'm also freaked out by this forum!!!! I registered for the forum, and nothing let me choose my user name. It just was a basic form, I thought the next step would be to choose myuser name. Now my real name is on this!! I wrote to someone asking them to help me change it!! Also I've now gotten 21 calls from people claiming to be debt consolidators in the past 45 min alone. I"m totally unnerved right now. LOL!

USAA is a normal bank, they just limited membership to military and related families just like Navy Federal Credit Union.

It was 856, sorry not 859. But I'm wondering, do I call tomorrow, after mailing DV letter cert., and tell him that I am disputing the "filed" report and that I know my legal rights? Or do I not call and just mail it?

Interesting. I did not know he didn't have the right to ask me questions like that. I assumed that he was fishing for information and since he'd told me it was recorded he could ask stuff like how I became a USAA member and if it was a family member in the military etc. I will send it to him in the morning.

Thank you for your answers and assistance by the way!
