Amex prepaid card offer

I???m currently struggling with $4k debt on my Amex Card. I???m only making min payments towards it. But it seems that I soon have to stop that even. I was contemplating settlement with them when I got a letter from Amex proposing that I voluntarily surrender the card to get a $250 prepaid card from Amex for free. I think I can make use of this offer but not sure of its pros and cons. Can anyone suggest me the best course of action? Can I simply surrender the card and forget about it and start using the new one?

Hi Jeremiah, I personally haven't experienced this offer from Amex so hope that someone with more knowledge would drop in soon. However, I doubt that one can take a new card and forget about the existing debt. IMO you must speak directly to the lender to get your doubts cleared.
