CitiBank CC - Need advice

I asked to settle at 30%, like I did BOA. Told her I was in DMP but couldn't keep up the payments, and also gave her my circumstances.
She put me on hold and came back saying she would have to submit the offer and I could call back in 3 days. If accepted, the first payment would be due 12/7. OR I could have 0% interest over 5 years....
Right now I'm paying settlement of $318 for HSBC and $400 Nov & Dec, then $1900 Jan. & Feb. for BOA - so I'm very short on cash right now.
So I ask her if I can call back in Dec. (since the settlement offer isn't in stone and has to be approved). This would take the first payment to January 7th, if accepted.
Do you think I jeopardized the chances of the settlement by postponing to after 12/7???
Of course, I'd rather pay $3,544 than the $11,815 and now I'm wondering if I screwed up....

You can only do what you can do. I am not sure , about your question, What I am sure of is that you are paying a lot every month, and you still need to live. You are doing a great job, paying what you can and not running from your debt. I have to believe that they will wait. They have waited this long and a bit longer should not really be a big deal.
Good luck

I agree- you can only do what you can do and afford. I was in a similar boat with Chase- I have 3 accounts with them, called them last week and they talked about settling all 3 accounts together. The % was decent- average of about 35% for all 3 accounts but then after I thought about it, I couldn't comfortably afford the 3 monthly payments they were asking for. Of course, it never occurred to me that I could just settle 2 of the 3 accounts- I didn't HAVE to settle all 3 together just cause they are with Chase, duh!! So I called back and said I could settle the 2 accounts, not the one and they took me up...same percentages and terms. Done deal. I'll call them about the 3rd account later this month, it hasn't charged off yet so I'm not terribly worried that they won't be open to the idea of settlement. It's all a guessing game I guess but if you're showing that you're trying and you keep in contact with them, they should work with you. Is your account due for charge off by 12/7 though? you might want to be careful if it will charge off before you are ready to pay it off...

She didn't mention anything about it being near chargeoff. It's a little past 90 days. I guess I will wait until after 12/7 and see where it is. I just can't afford to lay out any more cash this month. They were willing to settle at a firm 65% today, but since I've been an accountholder since 1997, I felt they made tons of money off me. Hence the 30% offer.

Citi sent me to a Northland Group collections which I believe they try to collect prior to charge off. I settled with them for 40% over 3 payments.
Aubrey wait until you are about 130-140 days late and then see what they will settle for. It is rare that they will charge you off before 180 days late. This will give you time to pay your current settlement payment, then deal with Citi in a couple of months. It is a tightrope and you have to keep track of your days (a little like being pregnant, lol) then try to settle with the company and orchestrate it to where you have the funds too. You have time, just let it ride a little.

Oh, I have also been told by a number of Citi people that the longer you have been a customer with them the more willing they are to settle. Don't know how true it is but it was true in my experience.
Good luck!

I had a Citi card since the mid-1990s. Those sobs sued me about a month after charge-off, balance of over $6K. The reality is I paid them much more than that over the years. Yes, they made money off me and went for the kill anyway.
