Hello all, this forum is great! Recently I received a call from "Sam Williams" at ACE Notification Agency, (518) 314-7685 at work. He had a foreign accent, sounded like he was from India. He started to read me this disclaimer, then started to tell me that he was collecting a debt. He asks me if I've ever been to jail, asks me if I've ever been convicted of passing fraudulent checks. He told me that after fees and interest, I owed over $6,000.00! Then he tells me that he is currently running a background check on me (you can hear another persons voice in the background) and that the check shows that I'm a "good" guy. Because I'm a "good" guy, the debt can be settled for just $1,102.16. Then he pauses (someone is talking to him)... wait, I'm now authorized to settle for just $720.00! Imagine my excitement! Of course, after I stop my happy dance, I ask him really why he's calling me. He tells me that I authorized an online payday loan, and that back in 2006, a sum of $350.00 was deposited into my checking account, and that I had never paid it back. The company I supposedly borrowed the money from was Crown Lending through Universalpaydayloan.com. I told him that any payday loans I may have borrowed back in 2006 had been paid, and that I had no recollection of any such transaction. He wanted to know what I was going to do about it and I told him that I would have to check my records and get back to him.
I contacted my bank, and they will be mailing me statements from 2006, so I can verify. If I owe the money, that's fine, I'll pay the $350.00. This sounds like a scam to me, my concern is that I will constantly be harassed at work if I refuse to pay. Has anyone dealt with this company?
TIA

Hang on! I smell bullsh*t.

Because you're such a good guy, just tell 'em to pound sand. They're attempting collection on a (probably) illegal loan, and using definitely illegal tactics to do it. They'd be damn lucky if you get to them before the Attorney General does. BTW, 518 is a New York area code (Capital district). Also, the NY AG has been on a rampage about shifty collectors. Just sayin...

I just got a call from this company on my office line. I told them I was unavailable and took a message. I have been getting these calls off and on for the past 2 months now. I did have a payday loan but everything has been paid back as of last October. I have even gone as far as pulling my credit score and no bad debt is showing. Its getting very annoying! I really wish it would stop. Oh and watch out if you ever get a settlement like from an accident they will start calling all the time.

I recently got a call much like the original poster from this company, infact two separate companies that both state that I got a payday loan out in April and May of this year. Now as far as I know I have not gotten any payday loans since 2008 before I filled bankruptcy. I called the 518-314-7685 number and a "Brandon Michael" stated that they will be filing a "legal manner" against me. I was furious, I asked them to send me documented proof that I took this loan out the man stated "it is a paperless loan" I said to him "well are you filing a paperless legal case" he then became angry and asked me not to call anymore. Doesn't seem likely that someone trying to collect a debt would ask the debtor to not call anymore. hmmm bullshit I think. I had my attorney call them and ask for the documents, and he states they only fax information on Saturdays... well that's odd too, I asked them if they wanted my old statements to prove that I did not get this loan, he stated "No" really?! you don't want proof? I'm confused you stupid little man!

I called my bank on the November 21st and they said they would send the statements out, and that I should receive them in 2-3 business days. Turns out that it was a bit more difficult for them to get the detailed statements (had to get paper copies from files) so the statements didn't get mailed until today. I was receiving daily calls from both Brandon and Sam, and I told them that I had contacted my bank and that statements were on the way. Somehow, they got my cell number (pisses me off). They haven't been real nasty, except that they have been calling. They ask me what I intend to do, and I said I'm not doing anything until I get the statements, and they hang up.

Thanks for the posts and I'll post more after I get more information.

I received the statement copies yesterday in the mail. There is a credit to my account from the supposed lending company, but it's for a different date and a lower amount than I was told by ACE Notification Agency. At this time in 2006, I was going through a pretty rough break up regarding a long relationship. During this breakup, it was recommended by my bank to close my checking account because of fraudulent charges that started popping up. I opened a new account with the same bank, which I've had opened and in good standing since 2006.

As I stated in previous posts, I had been receiving daily phone calls from ACE. Today is December 8th, and I have not heard from them since the 1st. Any loans that I may have had, that were tied to my old checking account had been paid by January 2007. I have 2 questions:

1. Should I contact ACE and let them know my findings?
2. How can I tell if a loan company was making illegal loans? I have searched online for both Crown Lending and Universalpaydayloan.com, but have found nothing.

I just got off the phone with the Department of Corporations (DOC) for California. They have no record of either Universalpaydayloan.com or Crown Lending as a legitimate pay day loan lender in the state of California. It appears that these loans were originally illegal and I don't believe that the ACE has any legal standing to collect.

When they call ask them for their contact information. They will likely refuse...then tell them on the phone that you will no longer be taking any of their calls. If they do give it to you, immediately send them a DV letter stating that according to your records you do not owe them. Make them prove it. paperless loan is a bunch of BS there is still internal company paperwork and records.

YES!!!!!!

My Fiance was contacted by a "Sam Williamson" (very heavy Indian accent) with the Ace Notification Agency. He claimed she owed a Payday loan from July 2007. He said that they wanted to have her arrested and put in jail. He siad he could not provide any proof of the debt until payment was made.

My Fiance called me crying and did not know what to do. So like an idiot I called him thinking this was legal and paid the one time settlement offer. $510.00

Then I did research. Turn's out they have to provide proof of debt, see this link http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/debtcollectionscams_what_to_do.php

I called my bank and put a stop payment on the charge, called the police and filed a report and then I logged into the FBI and file a tip report.

So, in summary; don't be an idiot like me!!!
If you get a call from;

Sam Williamson
Ace Notification Agency
518-314-7685

tell him to cram it.

I, too, received a call from "Matt Hardy" today. He said that I was being brought up on charges of internet fraud, and all this other crap. He gave me a claim number. He gave me some long disclaimer, yada, yada, yada and then I asked him when this happened and he gave me the date. I told him that I had never had a loan with anyone other than my bank and he told me that the police were on their way to arrest me. I have gotten these calls so many times, it is just laughable. They are just trying to scare people into paying. The number they called me from was 713-315-4000. Tried calling it back and it is a constant busy signal.

These people have been calling me for over a year at my office line.. They leave me horrible messages stating that I am going to go to jail and that my house could be in jeopardy. They called me once and told me I owed 4000 when I asked for documentation the caller started screaming at me and then hung up on me.. He then called me back a few minutes later and apologized and offered to pay half the debt on his personal credit card all I had to do was money wire him the rest of the balance. They refuse to send me any sort of documentation on the supposed debt. They are horribly rude and allways tell me that only god can help me.. How do I get them to stop calling me? I have filed with the FTC and the BBB, is the next step with the police?

I received a call from Tom Clark, from the Central Bureau of Criminal Investigation 517-314-7685 - can you believe the audacity of these idiots. Yes, Tom Clark sounded more like Hakeem Patel threatening this and that. I've been doing collection work for 30 years and the Fair Debt and Collections Practices act is very clear on what a collector can do and cannot do. These individuals are all scam artists, trying to scare people into paying money, most of them don't owe. Please take my advice and do not let these people scare you. If there is a doubt in your mind that you owe the debt, then simply ask them to MAIL you proof of the debt - if they refuse - hang up and move on with your life. These people give collectors a bad name and they have no legal authority to do anything. By the way, if any of their people are reading these blogs - Tom Clark was dumb enough to leave his threatening message and misrepresentation on my voice mail - which is now going to the Attorney General's Office or the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, whomever I can get to act on his threat.

This is a foreign company attempting to collect a debt you may or may not even have.... they are constantly harassing people do not give them any information, ie; banking, ss #, name or address, they need to be shut down by the feds but good luck with that happening!

i am experiencing a lot of calls from this agency. Each time the person has a heavy Indian accent, today his name was John Wilson, and earlier this week his name was John Brown, when they first contacted me i will still in debt consolidation, and my rep told me they need to mail me something in writing. the number they give to me is 832-327-7412, which is located in Tx, and the person answering the phone also has a heavy accent, and the name does not match ACE. They have also threatened me that i would be arrested, and has called me bad names. If this is a legal debt collection agency, why does no one speak clear English....
